Video notes, tips, and alternate links

All the videos on this website are coded using HTML5. This is the current standard for writing web pages and while not every feature in that standard has been accepted by all web browsers, the video element has been supported by all major browsers for a good while. This includes Internet Explorer (9.0+), Firefox (3.5+), Opera (10.5+), Chrome (4.0+), and Safari (4.0+), running under all major computer, phone, and tablet operating systems - Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

If you don't see the video placholder images at all on the main pages, perhaps your browser is too old to recognize the new standards. Because the internet is evolving rapidly, staying with an old browser for too long will mean that you will miss out on many of the rich experiences you were intended to enjoy - and often you won't even know that something is missing. You will also become vulnerable to new security risks if you don't install updates periodically. All major browsers are free, so consider downloading a newer version, or try a different one all together.

Below is a listing of the video files on this website. There are nine videos on three pages. By default, your browser should automatically select the first format that it can support from the list of (mp4/m4v,ogg,webm). They are all presented in that order, which allows for the most popularly supported format - mp4, which is also the smallest, to be the one your browser will be most likely to download. This minimizes download time and cost, and improves the overall experience for you.

The greeting video is the only one that is set to automatically download and then play. The others will display the cover image, but not begin to download until you actually click the play button. This prevents downloading hundreds of megabytes of data in the background you might never need. This is especially important to mobile users or those with slow internet connections. Once you have downloaded a video, you should be able to view it repeatedly without using any additional data bandwidth until you clear your browser cache. Some browsers are set to do this automatically to conserve storage space or improve privacy and security. Check your browser settings if you have questions about this.

In the list below, the first three options for each video are the same files that are linked to from the embedded video elements in the main website pages. If you simply click on the file type in the 'Link/Format' column, your browser will probably just begin to play it if it can. This should work for systems that have plug-ins or helper applications to view video, but have browsers that do not support HTML5. You can also usually right-click the link and choose to download and save the file, then view it later directly from your local storage drive.

For most of the videos, there are additional formats and sizes listed here. MOV, WMV, and FLV formats are not supported in HTML5, but many systems can play them. These versions are listed because they are larger and will look better than the smaller versions if viewed in full-screen mode. Any of the 640x360 size videos should be fine to just click and view. The 1920x1080 full HD videos may work on your system and would be the best choice if you want to view it on a larger tv or monitor. You may experience uneven playback or pauses for buffering with the larger files. They would probably work better if downloaded and saved locally first (right-click).
